Post 16 programme

Study for your A Levels while training with Palace for Life with our new Post-16 programme.

APPLY FOR TRIALS

If you’re in Year 11 or aged 16–19 and love football, our Post 16, Further Education & Football Programme could be the next step on your journey for progression on and off the pitch.

As it stands, this opportunity is only open to boys signing up to study for A Levels at Shirley High Sixth Form. A specific girls Post 16 programme will be launched in the summer of 2026.

Delivered in partnership with Shirley High Sixth Form and Kent County Cricket Club, this programme offers the opportunity to combine professional football training with a full-time education, helping you to unlock your potential and plan for the future.

Please note, the delivery of education will be managed by Shirley High Sixth Form.

WHAT IS THE POST 16 PROGRAMME?

It’s more than just football. Students work towards A-Levels or vocational qualifications while developing their skills through regular training and competitive fixtures. Whether you’re aiming for a career in sport or looking to build a strong foundation for other industries, the programme is designed to support your ambitions, using football as a key driver.

As well as top-level coaching, players benefit from career-focused workshops, employability sessions and work experience opportunities, including wider programmes delivered by Palace for Life. There’s also structured support around mental and physical well-being, leadership development and community volunteering.

Shirley High Sixth form will look after the education side and Palace for Life will deliver the football element of the programme.

WHERE CAN IT LEAD?

Many players move on to higher education, apprenticeships or roles in coaching and football-related careers. Some secure scholarships at universities in the UK and abroad. Others find their route into semi-professional or professional football. Whatever your goal, the programme offers the structure, guidance and opportunities to help you get there.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To enrol, you’ll need at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent). Specific courses may have additional requirements – these are outlined in Shirley High’s prospectus.

Please note, the delivery of education will be managed by Shirley High Sixth Form.
