Welcome to GAME ON, Palace for Life’s employability programme designed to help young people aged 16-25 get into education, training or employment.
WHAT IS GAME ON?
GAME ON is our employability programme that offers the guidance, training and practical skills needed to help you take the next steps in your career.
It’s open to young people aged 16-25 years old and runs at Selhurst Park, the state-of-the-art Crystal Palace Academy and in the local community.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM GAME ON?
When you sign up to GAME ON you will be assigned your very own Palace for Life employability coach who will chat with you about your aspirations and help you plan your pathway.
Each individual journey is different. But in a nutshell, under the direction of our staff and industry experts, you can expect to better understand the right path to get into your industry of choice. Through GAME ON, we can help with things like improving your CV, finding opportunities to get qualifications, offering insights into some of the UK’s best employers and helping you find relevant work experience.
There are three ways you can get involved in GAME ON:
- Skills for Life course – our core employment programme which covers a broad range of fundamental employment skills
- ‘Kick Off to…’ short courses – for those wanting qualifications to get into specific industries
- Industry Insights & Trips – real-life industry experiences, networking opportunities and professional advice
SKILLS FOR LIFE COURSE
The Skills for Life course is the centrepiece of our GAME ON programme and typically runs for 6 weeks in the autumn, spring and summer.
Anyone who signs up for the Skills for Life course will come across 6 key themes, which are:
- Personal Branding – Helping you to be the best version of yourself
- Effective Decision Making – Making the best choices for your future career
- Emotional Intelligence – Understanding how your mindset applies to the workplace
- Finance & Budgeting – Learning the essentials of financial planning and budgeting
- Technology – Understanding how the digital world fits into your aspirations
- Community Values – Recognising a sense of belonging in your local area
The 6 themes will be delivered through a range of workshops, one-to-one support and practical group activities.
‘KICK OFF TO…’ SHORT COURSES
‘Kick Off to…’ are introductory shorter courses that equip you with the skills and knowledge to enter specific industries. Previous ‘Kick Off to…’ courses have covered industries such as football, construction, technology, media and more.
Courses are delivered by industry professionals and by the end of it you’ll come out with an accreditation or qualification.
INDUSTRY INSIGHTS & TRIPS
Our Industry Insights & Trips are a broad range of activities to help you learn from and connect with industry experts from a range of industries.
Industry Trips are a great way to get a ‘sneak peek’ into well-known companies. Our trips include visits to the HQs of various well-known companies and offer the chance for you to chat with staff to see what it’s really like to work there. Previous visits have been to the likes of Football Manager, ASOS, Innocent Smoothie and more!
Industry Insights are more general experiences which give you the chance to learn from various industry professionals on a more personal basis, make new relationships and gain pathways and opportunities. We also run events such as our Careers Fair, which allow you to speak to various experts from a range of industries, and find out what opportunities they have.
