The Palace for Life Foundation Marathon March is back in 2020 and the charity walk will feature a brand-new route that focuses entirely on south London, the home of Crystal Palace F.C.

The marathon-length walk will take place on Saturday 10 October 2020 and will be running for the fourth consecutive year, bringing together Palace fans, legends and supporters.

Last year club legend Mark Bright took part for the second time, walking alongside Palace Chairman Steve Parish and fellow legend, Andy Gray.

Mark Bright said: “The reason I take part in the Marathon March because I’ve seen first-hand the incredible work the Foundation does to support youngsters, helping them stay active and healthy, or keeping them away from crime. It’s also a great day and a good chance to catch up with loads of our amazing fans.”

The social event is open to anyone, and is non-competitive, where the primary aim is to raise money for Palace for Life’s work with vulnerable young south Londoners. In the three previous years, through the Marathon March, Palace fans have raised over £200,000 for the Foundation, helping to expand areas like the Team Mates programme, which works with primary school children to develop their positive mental health.

During this time, the Foundation has also launched Breaking the Cycle and Divert, two programmes aimed at reducing youth crime in south London and 200 young people have been given one-to-one support in 2019 alone. Read Shamel’s story here.

Palace for Life Foundation Chief Executive Mike Summers has joined fans and legends to walk the full route every year and is eagerly anticipating the new route.

Mike Summers said: “We have had three fantastic years of the Marathon March and have been truly blown away by the support from Palace fans. This event has become the highlight in our calendar and next year will be no exception.

“We’re really excited about the change to the route, taking in more of the areas we support and finishing at Selhurst Park. I’m already looking forward to it and hope to see lots of new and familiar faces joining us on the day!”

All Marathon March participants are asked to register for £25 (£20 for half route, £10 under 18s) and commit to raising a minimum of £300* each in sponsorship. All that do will see their name printed in the Palace matchday programme and on the Palace for Life roll of honour on the website.
