Palace for Life Foundation are helping to support National Obesity Awareness Week 2020, which takes place from the 13th to the 20th January. The aim of National Obesity Awareness Week is to put the obesity problem in the national spotlight, and to promote positive change; improving the health of individuals and families, and providing information, inspiration and support to those who are overweight or obese.
The Foundation are committed to tackling health and wellness issues across Croydon and south London. Our Health and Wellbeing team proactively work with all ages to ensure that people have the tools and knowledge that they need to live a happy and healthy life. Our Healthy Eagles sessions provide an opportunity for children and their families to learn about nutrition and exercise in a supportive environment, with the added benefit of a chance to explore new food and practice their cooking.
Croydon is in the top ten of the London boroughs for highest density of fast food outlets , meaning greater availability of high calorie and low nutrition options at low prices. Public Health England identify obesity as being more common in people from deprived areas.
Palace for Life Foundation will also offer free cooking lessons to families and young people in south London this winter, ensuring as many people as possible are able to enjoy healthy and nutritious meals. The lessons will focus on recipes using low-cost ingredients that are commonly available from food banks.
