Local children enjoy “amazing” Summer Extravaganza

Holiday Food and Fun allowed Palace for Life to deliver activities and provide hot meals to over 150 young people throughout summer.

Palace for Life Foundation kept over 150 local young people active and healthy throughout the school holidays at the Summer Extravaganza thanks to the Holiday and Food (HAF) programme.

Funding secured from HAF enabled Palace for Life to deliver a free programme for local children on free school meals across the summer holidays at our partner school, Heavers Farm Primary, throughout July and August.

Eighty 5-11-year olds attended daily; taking part in activities such as football, basketball, cricket, athletics and arts and crafts. The young people also took part in sessions by external providers such as Einstein’s Entertainers who delivered a range of fun science workshops, local dance company Release Your Moves, DJ Milktray who engaged the children with different disco’s and lasertag2U.

Each day all attendees were provided with a morning fruit snack and a hot lunch with a healthy dessert thanks to local catering company Jerk Shack.

Sam Bacon, Palace for Life Primary School Programmes Manager said: “The programme has been a fantastic success, with so many children from the local area attending. Children have benefitted from both Foundation coaches and other providers engaging them with a variety of activities, along with receiving a healthy hot lunch each day”.

Callum McGuire of Einstein’s Entertainers said: “We have had so much fun running our workshops over the summer for Palace for Life. We have explored soaring rockets, putting the children into huge bubbles and had glider races. After months of virtual sessions, it has been wonderful to be out teaching in person again with the children and it has been a joy making science fun with the kids at Palace for Life”.

  • Overall 154 Children attended from 41 local Primary Schools across the four weeks
  • 85% of attendees had previously fallen short of the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day
  • 100% of attendees said they felt welcome at the Summer Extravaganza
  • 97% either strongly agreed or agreed that they now feel more confident
  • 98% of attendees enjoyed the Summer Extravaganza
