Great opportunity for young girls to get into football

Crystal Palace Ladies midfielder Jade Davenport and goalkeeper Lauren-Aimee Allen were on hand to support the delivery of Palace for Life Foundation’s Girls Only half term holiday course in Bromley.

Jade and Lauren helped to deliver drills and games to the girls before taking the time to discuss their engagement with football from youth grassroots level through to their current status of semi-professional Women’s Championship players.

The girls got the chance to ask both Jade and Lauren for their advice on progressing within the game, with the ladies putting an emphasis on commitment, dedication and most importantly to enjoy playing and have fun.

Lauren-Amie, Palace Ladies goalkeeper said: “It was great to come down to the Girls Only holiday course and support the great work Pam and the Foundation are doing to grow and develop girl’s football. Being able to interact and watch the girls was fantastic and I enjoyed sharing my experiences and answering questions.”

We spoke to some of the Palace junior’s players who attended the day about their experiences and how it felt to have Crystal Palace Ladies visit the holiday course.

Ella, who plays for the Palace Under 11’s team said: “It’s really amazing that the Ladies came, when you’re a girl that wants to play football they really inspire you and boost you to follow your dreams.”

Under 12’s Palace player Amber said “I was surprised they came just to see us, it made me so happy.”

Pam McRoberts, Women and Girls Development officer at the Foundation and Palace Ladies player said: “We are passionate about all aspects of the game and are proud that the Palace badge can inspire young girls. The girl’s programme is essential for proving young females with pathways into football, opportunities to participate and routes to the competitive game.”

These one-day courses are for girls aged 5-14 years old and are run by highly-skilled coaches who deliver exciting and innovative sessions ensuring each child develops new skills at their own pace, regardless of ability.

At Palace for Life courses, participants learn new skills, but are also a fantastic way for young players to get active, meet new friends and to have fun in a safe and secure environment.

There are plenty of opportunities for girls to get into football with Palace for Life. Why not come and join us during the Easter holidays for our next holiday course?
