Five things to know about Giving Tuesday

With Giving Tuesday coming up on 2nd December, here’s a quick reminder of what it’s all about and how you can get involved with Palace for Life.

Pass it forward this Giving Tuesday

1.) What is Giving Tuesday?

Launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving to encourage people to support the causes that mean most to them.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re encouraging Palace fans and supporters to pass it forward, to give someone else the kind of chance they may once have had.

If you’ve ever had someone back you in life, this Giving Tuesday is your chance to do the same for a young person growing up in South London.

As the official charity of Crystal Palace, we’re all about helping young people across South London through free football, mentoring and support into work – whatever helps them move forward in life.

This year, Giving Tuesday is taking place on the 2nd December, and you can donate to us here.

2.) Why Giving Tuesday?

When it was launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday was a way to shift the focus from consumerism to generosity (as it takes place the Tuesday following Black Friday), giving people an annual day to give back to their communities and support their favourite charitable causes.

In 2022, over £20 million was raised in the UK alone.

3.) Why Palace for Life?

If you’ve ever had someone back you in life, this Giving Tuesday is your chance to do the same for a young person growing up in South London.

Every year, our dedicated coaches and mentors work with over 18,000 young people to provide free physical activity, help with next steps in education, training or employment and support with mental health and crime reduction through one-to-one mentoring.

We also help grow the bond between the club and its community and offer talented young footballers a path to the Crystal Palace boys’ and girls’ academies.

4.) Tackling the challenges

Young people in South London face a range of complex challenges, including barriers to employment, poor mental health, and limited access to local support services.

By using the power of the Palace badge we’re able to reach young people who may be unreachable to traditional support services.

5.) Where could my money go?

The money you donate this Giving Tuesday could go towards:

  • Putting on more one to one mentoring sessions for young people struggling with their mental health
  • Supporting our employment team with putting on short courses with qualifications for young people
  • Providing equipment for young people to play football for free, every single week

I’m sold!  How do I donate?

If you’ve ever had someone back you in life, this Giving Tuesday is your chance to do the same for a young person growing up in South London.

This could mean helping a young person get back into education, find a job or play football and make friends in a safe environment every week.

Pass it forward this Giving Tuesday.
