EDDIE IZZARD AND ANDY JOHNSON ADDED TO THE LINEUP FOR 2022 MARATHON MARCH

Actor and comedian Eddie Izzard and ex-Palace Striker Andy Johnson have confirmed they will both be taking part in the 2022 Marathon March this Saturday, 24th September, helping to raise vital funds to support young south Londoners.

Johnson will be joining over 150 Palace fans and fellow Palace for Life Patron and club hero Mark Bright in the 26.2-mile walk across south London this weekend, whilst Eddie, also a Palace for Life Patron, will be on a solo mission, completing the March in Sheffield due to work commitments.

Eddie Izzard is a lifelong Palace fan, having gone to her first game in the 1960s with her brother and her auntie, who lived on Whitehorse Lane. She has been supporting Palace for Life for years, having completed three out of six Marathon March’s to date. Although she isn’t able to complete the Marathon from Selhurst Park, she is delighted that she can participate, despite being 150 miles away.

Andy Johnson scored a total of 85 goals in 161 appearances for Palace but is probably best known for his hat trick against rivals Brighton in October 2002, and another in their next match against Walsall. The following season Andy’s goal scoring prowess attracted the attention of then-England manager Sven -Göran Eriksson, where Andy eventually made 8 caps overall for his country between 2005 and 2007.

Away from his playing career, Johnson is also a keen supporter of Palace for Life, having become an Honorary Patron in 2018 and leading the way in previous Marathon Marches. He said:

“I can’t wait to get going on Saturday! It’s definitely tough, but to chat with some of the incredible Palace fans taking part is what makes it so special.

Palace holds a really special place in my heart, not only because of my career with the club but also because of the amazing work Palace for Life do in the community, using football as a tool for supporting young south Londoners, and I’m really proud to be a part of that.”
