Palace fans to take on RideLondon

Sunday 4th August will see 25,000 cyclists take to the roads of London and Surrey to complete the 2019 Prudential RideLondon, including a team of riders representing Palace for Life.

The 20-strong team will be kitted out in a bespoke Palace cycling kit, and are taking part to raise money for Palace for Life Foundation’s work with young people in south London. The team includes a mixture of experienced and new cyclists, with some travelling from as far as Canada and Australia to take part in the event. They will take on the scenic Surrey countryside, complete with tough climbs, as well as taking in the sights of the capital, finishing in front of Buckingham Palace.

One of the cyclists entering is Tom Gowers who said: “I’ve supported Palace ever since I can remember, my first game was against Forest in ‘94 and I’ve been hooked ever since. Palace for Life Foundation gives the club a platform to really give back to the community and make a difference, I want to help with this in any way I can.”

Palace fan Stephen Barton is looking forward to the challenge, he said: “I’d always thought about doing this as I cycle most days but 100 miles seems like a long, long way to me. However when I saw the chance to ride for the Foundation and help to raise money and awareness in support of the work they do, it made the decision to finally take the plunge an easy(ish) one.”

Rob Sutherland has taken on RideLondon four times before, he said: You have to look forward to the challenge and the knowledge that you’ll complete it. I wouldn’t say I’m looking forward to the hills, but they’re a big part of the challenge. Knowing I’ve raised money for a local cause, whilst riding in Palace cycling kit, is a great feeling.

The Palace for Life 2019 Prudential RideLondon team is made up of: Rob Sutherland, Rebecca Hurst, Donald Forde, Mike Clark, Bob White, Andy Phillips, Toby Wait, Richard Rose, Stuart Mackenzie, Charlie Peake, Stephen Barton, Tom Gowers, Nigel Bosworth, Nicholas Eisner, Charlie Parnell, Chris Dixon, Joseph Rayment, Martyn Pearce, Nick Carter and Ben Walters.

Each cyclist has a fundraising target of £600, to help us raise vital funds to continue to engage hard-to-reach young people in the local community. Additional funding allows us to improve health education, create safer communities and inspire young south Londoners to have more positive futures.
