Local MP Visits Boxing Session

Thanks to the Premier League Professional Footballers’ Association Community Fund (PLPFA), the Palace for Life Foundation have launched a boxing initiative in partnership with a local organisation called ‘Gloves not Gunz’.

The programme focuses on helping young people in one of the most deprived areas in Croydon – which also has a high level of youth violence. The young people taking part in the programme learn boxing techniques, develop their fitness and learn discipline in a safe and secure environment. Each session finishes with a workshop which draws attention to an issue or recent news relating to young people.

One of the sessions was recently visited by trustee Steve O’Connell as well as Labour MP for Croydon Sarah Jones, both of whom were impressed by the dedication and focus of the young people. Sarah Jones was particularly interested in listening to the views of the participants, as well as getting their perspectives on the growing issues of youth violence and knife crime, and listening to their ideas on how to tackle them.

The details of the session are listed below:

Every Thursday 6-7:30pm
Norbury Park Pavilion (off Green Lane)
SW16 3LS
