Bike From Arsenal FAQs

  • The cycle will start at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, heading north-west through Barnet towards St Albans before turning west and across to Chesham. From there the ride will follow through the villages around the picturesque Chilterns such as Wendover, Chinnor, Watlington and Woodcote before crossing the River Thames in Pangbourne. Once into Berkshire, the route will loop around the bottom of Reading and into Bracknell for a well-earned rest at the hotel. Day two will set out from the hotel through Ascot, Virgina Water, Chertsey and Walton-on-Thames before re-entering London via Kingston, New Malden and Wimbledon. The final stretch will take you along Mitcham Common and back into Selhurst Park along Whitehorse Lane.

  • The full ride will be 134-miles in total. Day one will be around 100 miles, and day two around 34 miles.

  • Bike from Arsenal will be a guided ride, with a number of ride leaders. The riders will be split into smaller groups of similar level cyclists, with each group having an experienced cyclist leading the group throughout, navigating the route, setting the pace and ensuring all riders are as safe as possible.

  • The ride will start at approx. 07:00 – 08:00 at Emirates Stadium.

  • Your overnight bags will be transported directly from Emirates Stadium to the hotel for you, and will be waiting in your room upon arrival. You can also bring a light bag to wear on the ride with snacks or spare kit/equipment in.

  • You will need to bring a bike (we strongly recommend using a road bike), a cycling helmet, water bottle, casual clothes for the night at the hotel and the match. We also recommend bringing padded shorts, cycling shoes, cycling gloves and any snacks/energy gels that you might need. You will also want to bring a waterproof/sunglasses & suncream, depending on the weather!

  • If you don’t have a bike but would like to take part in Bike from Arsenal, please contact us on fundraising@palaceforlife.org and we will be able to assist you further.

  • Each ride leader is trained in basic bike repairs, and there will be a roaming support vehicle on hand throughout the event to support if there are any more complex issues. We recommend bringing spare equipment such as inner tubes.

  • We will have food, drinks and energy snacks available at all three feed stops along the route, as well as a roaming support vehicle for technical assistance.

  • There will be a selection of food and drinks available at the stops, including; flapjacks, muffins, donuts, crisps, bananas, apples, oranges, tea, coffee, squash, water. There will be a hot meal served at lunch.

  • On day one there will be three feed stops along the route, with food & drinks available to refuel – the middle stop will include a hot lunch. At the end of day 1 there is an overnight stay, before riding back to Selhurst Park on day 2!

  • Day two will start at approx. 07:30 – 08:00. This is subject to change depending on the average pace from day one. We will aim to get all of the riders to Selhurst Park at least 3 hours prior to kick-off.

  • Yes, we will have facilities available for you to shower and change before the match.

  • Yes! We have a wide range of cycling abilities that take part in the ride. You will be riding with riders of similar ability, and you have the option to move between groups at the feed stops if your group is too fast or slow. We also have a couple of pre-event group training rides which are a great opportunity to meet the other riders, to practice cycling in a group, and get some all-important extra miles into your legs.

  • We won’t stop you from taking part in the ride! We ask that all of our riders commit to working hard to hit the £500 fundraising target, and we know that a large majority of donations will come in during the event itself. We have found over the years that the £500 target is attainable, with many of our riders exceeding this total. You will also receive dedicated fundraising support from our team throughout the build-up to the event.

  • Money you raise helps to fund, grow or scale new or existing programmes that support young people in South London. This can be anything from helping us continue to provide free football and sports activities, buying equipment to run sessions, having the staff to coach sessions and so much more.
